Something for everyone. |

Artemis. In the months that we've chatted online, I've become
convinced that she is my (more talented) mirror image. I first 'met' Artemis
on the JL Animated RPG message board; she posted a fic
called Paradise Found. Then, she
began the very funny Man's World series.
I was
hooked. But Artemis
has quite a bit more rolling around in her pen than just funny stories about superheroines in shopping malls: she's written some
fantastic darker stories, including my favorites, Legacy and Orphee et Eurydice. Artemis
really doesn't have any limits to her writing – she has something for
everyone. Her stories are funny, horrifying, full of
angst, romance and irreverence; she writes straight fiction, and also plays
with time and reality, twisting traditional storytelling methods very
effectively. Artemis's
website, which includes her fanfiction, is at http://www.geocities.com/artemis1088.
Although I really love all of her fics, I would
like to recommend the following, especially: |

Legacy: The League is destroyed after an invasion
by Darkseid. Three different time threads run
through this story, making it a (sometimes) difficult read, but well worth
the effort. Beautifully crafted, alternately horrifying, funny and romantic,
this easily rates as one of my favorite shipfics;
so much so that it almost feels wrong to call this one a shipfic
– it is much more than that. Read this, you won't regret it. Rated R. Orphee et Eurydice: An ancient curse is activated, and tragic events occur.
Sometimes sweet, sometimes funny, other times unbearably sad, this fic is everything that a Batman and Wonder Woman shipfic should be. Although wonderful the whole way
through, the scene in which Bruce examines Diana's apartment is worth the
price of admission – Batman at his best, and somehow laid
bare emotionally. To say much more would be to give too much away. Rated R. Man's World Series, L'Amour et les Cavernes &
Sick Day: Funny,
funny, funny. If you are looking for a light read with a bit of romance,
these are the fics for you. The Man's World Series stories are longer
than the other two mentioned here, and have a bit of angst threaded through
them, especially in the first two stories. The other two stories are simply
enjoyable as extremely short reads and are practically guaranteed to bring a
bit of a grin to your face. Rated PG-13. Snapshots: Diana tries to cope with the grief
of her sister's death with the help of two friends. This is not a shipfic, but a look at the friendship between Batman,
Wonder Woman and Superman. A really, really lovely story. Remember, if
you go to her site and read her fics, please be kind enough to drop her a line by e-mail telling her
what you thought of them. Or, if you read them on fanfiction.net, be sure to
leave a review. Art credits this page: Ed Benes,
