EMERY (son of Joel EMERY &
Eva FITE) was born about 1833 in Rowan County, NC. He died on
13 Jan 1866 in Alto Pass, IL.
He worked on his father's farm during 1850 Census. He died of chronic diarrhea, probably as a result of his service in the Union Army during the Civil War.
James served as a Private in Company B of the Illinois 109th Infantry. He enlisted on 15 Aug 1862, and mustered in on 11 Sept 1862 and served in this unit until 28 Feb 1863. He transferred to Company G of the Illinois 11th Infantry in Mar 1863 and served to June 1865.
According to Soldiers of Union County, IL (Dexter 1997), he was 5 foot 7 inches tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, and a farmer when he enlisted at age 28 on 15 Aug 1862. He was discharged from the Mound City, IL Hospital on 16 May 1865.

John
EMERY (son of Joel EMERY &

County, NC. He died on 16 Feb 1862 at Fort Donnellson, Tennessee
during the Civil War battle there. He is buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery in
Union County, IL. His obituary appeared in the
Jonesboro Gazette on March 1 and March 15, 1862.
According to Soldiers of Union County, IL (Dexter 1997), John enlisted in Aug 1861 and mustered in on 3 Sep 1861 as a private in Company K of the 109th Illinois Infantry. He was killed in action on 15 Feb 1982 at Fort Donnellson, TN. Dexter also indicated that he died 16 Feb 1982, which may mean he was not reported as dead until the 16th.
John married Mary Frances LANDRETH, daughter of McKinley LANDRETH and Eliza STONE, on 8 Apr 1860 in Union County, IL. Mary was born about 1846 in Illinois. She died about 1865. She is buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Union County, IL. Their young child at the time, Eliza Emery, became a ward of her brother according to the 1880 Census.

1897 in Anna, IL from exhaustion of epilepsy. He is buried in Hagler
Cemetery in Pomona, IL. He was a farmer.
According to the Soldiers of Union County, IL (Dexter 1997), Moses served in Company K of the 109th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted 18 Mar 1864 and mustered in on 19 Apr 1864. He was transferred to Company B, and mustered out on 9 Jul 1865.
He died at Anna State Hospital for the Insane (now called Choate Mental Health & Developmental Center). His attending physician was Samuel Dodd.
His death is recorded in the Union County, IL County Clerk's office under the letter "F" in the year 1898 instead of under "E" in 1897.
Moses married Armintha Ellen HAGLER, daughter of Mathias HAGLER and Rebecca BREWSTER, on 2 Nov 1866 in Jackson County, IL. Aramintha was born on 6 Mar 1844 in Illinois. She died on 17 Aug 1921 in Pomona, IL. She is buried in Hagler Cemetery in Pomona, IL.
Armintha may have had siblings living with her (1880 Census, microfilm copy T9, reel 254, family 73-73, page 10) who were named Mary E. b. 1864, Albert b. 1858, William Walter b. 1857, Julia Ann (Goodman, wife of William Walter) b. 1862, and a niece named Emma Carter b. 1869. They were all born in Illinois.
