Our congregation has a long and rich history.
On the Lord's Day of May 14, 1939, a group of sincere "christians only " met at the home of
Mrs. G. W. Atkinson and J. Ned Bryan in the first meeting of what subsequently became the Westmoreland Church of Christ.
Donald A. Nash, a student at Christian Normal Institute (now Kentucky Christian University)
was extended a call to preach regularly for the group which continued to meet in this home. The total attendance at
this first meeting was 61 and the offering amounted to $10.25.
In July of 1939 a large tent was pitched on the lot, which was later purchased as a permanent
site, and Brothers M.B. Miller and Robert Hendershot conducted revival services which resulted in the organization of
the Westmoreland Church of Christ on July 16, 1939, with a total of 107 charter members.
Following the revival meeting and organization of the Church, services were held at Vinson High
School until the erection of a frame building in 1942 located just behind the present building. The structure that now
houses the Westmoreland Church of Christ was dedicated as a House of Worship on November 11, 1951.
For 68 years this church has sounded forth the principles of the Restoration of the New Testament
Church, not claiming to be a denomination or affiliated with any ecclesiastical group, but simply endeavoring to be Christians
only. We invite you to join us in this effort.
