They have most o f the Philadelphia area Lutheran church records on micofilm. I checked the St. Michael's reco rds with some interesting results: Jack Greathouse says that Wilhelm Greathouse's first wif e was Anna Maria Puff, who was mother of Wilhelm Greathouse, Junior. But the Baptismal recor d says that the child was born out of wedlock! The mother's name was Anna Maria Puffin (femin ine ending -IN). The only reason the record gives her maiden name is that she wasn't married , so it was her only name. Maiden names were not given on the other records on the surroundin g pages. Thus I believe that Barbara was Wilhelm's only wife!" A note in the margin of the le tter stated that this letter is in review of Jack Murray Greathouse's work.
It is believed that Anna Maria Puff died as the result of complications of childbirth.
Source: Susan DeHart has copy of 'The Greathouse Family of Indiana' by Dorothy M. Dawson & Ja mes E. Murlock. "Pennsylvania German Pilgrims". This paragraph cites the Church records of S t Michael's Lutheran Church, Germantown, Philadelphia, PA. William (Wilhelm) owned 500 acre s of land on Zack's Run, located at Peel Tree in Harrison Co.,WV, which is located south of C larksburg, past Quiet Dell and closer to Barbour Co., WV. It describe s how the Frankford Company, of eight shareholders acquired up to 25,000 acres of land in th e colonies and relates that Dr. Johann Jakob Schutz was one of the shareholders. In "The Pens ylvania German in the Revolutionary War" 1775-1783 by H.M.M. Richards p. 456, we find that th e Sheetz (Schutz, Sheets, Schultes, Shoots, spelled many different ways depending upon the En glish recorder who was trying to anglisize the name) family is descended from Dr. Johann Jaco b Schut, a native of Germany. It also states that Dr. Schutz never came to America but that h is son Henry (Henrick) did, first going to Germantown then later settling in Whitemarsh Towns hip in Montgomery Co.
