Notes: Biography: There was a son born 1752 to CHARLES QUEEN and his young wife while they were her e in America, and was given the name of CHARLES QUEEN, JR., and they did not remain here fo r long in America, but returned to England, and
CHARLES QUEEN, SR., soon died, and as it was the law of that country that the parents of chil dren had to give their sons a trade of some kind, the mother of CHARLES QUEEN, JR. bound hi m out to the weaver's trade, and when he had served
his time at his trade, he then had to serve a time in the English army, so when he had reache d his majority, and was a free man, he longed and desired to see the land of his birth, in Am erica, so the son, CHARLES QUEEN, JR., returned to
America in or near the year 1770 and took possession of the old homestead on Gnatty Creek a t the mouth of Peeltree. [Since this area was not settled until 1772, Charles Jr. could not h ave returned to an `old homestaed.'] At this time he was not married, but soon did marry Mis s May Haley in 1773, a native of that country, and to this union or family tree, sprang (9) b ranches or children into the First Generation consisting of (6) sons and (3) daughters. CHARL ES QUEEN, JR., d. and was buried in the old homestead in an orchard, east of Clarksburg and B uckhannon Highway, opposite the Ira Post Mansion

A Charles Queen appears as a plaintiff 15 May 1789 in the Hampshire Co. court records; the Qu eens do not appear in the early pioneer records of the early settlement on Hacker's Creek . Charles and Armstead are in the 1790 and 1800 Maryland censuses. Charles, Abram, Corneliu s, Derry, and John Queen are in Harrison (now Upshur) Co. by the 1810 census.
He claimed 9 3/4 acres called "Mill Seat" in Allegany County in 1793

"The General Assembly of Marylan d in 1777 passed an act giving each soldier, in a call for 2000 men, 50 acres of land, who ha d served three years. In 1781 another act was passed, reserving all the vacant lands in the S tate westward of "Fort Cumberland" for the soldiers. In pursuance of these enactments, in 178 7 Francis Dicken and his ten assistants laid off 4,165 50-acre lots. The commissioned officer s were awarded each four 50-acre lots of land; the private soldiers received only one lot. Th e records show that 212 officers were awarded four lots each under the laws, 848 lots in all. "
