What skills and spills is.....
Skills and Spills; about eight to ten years ago, the Ohio Valley
Tumbling Association held this event in which tumblers from various clubs and studio’s met to perform skills in hopes
of passing and advancing through all ten skill levels. In the past eight or so
years, skills and spills has not been hosted, but past participants from All Valley School of Dance would like to start it
back up. This competition helps tumblers build on previous skills, strengthen
current skills and improve the cleanness of skills.
Skills and Spills was created to perfect the basic tumbling
skills and build on progressions without the competition among our students and clubs/studios.
This year some cheerleading skills have been incorporated-on the girls score sheet-with the rising popularity of cheerleading. Two judges (at each skill station) will evaluate one to two skills at each of the
seven to ten skill stations. The judges will be trained instructors from participating
studios, and also from a few instructors that are not affiliated with the participating studios. Skills will be judged on a scale of 0 to 10.00. A score of
0-7.99 is a Maintain in that current level. A score of 8.00-10.00 is an advance
to the next level. There will be a preliminary evaluation of participants to find the level best suited to the tumblers current
ability. Tumblers must advance in order of the level’s and not skip any. If a tumbler Maintains, then he/she remains in that level; if the tumbler earns an
advance, he/she move’s on to the next level.
