We teach the Ryukyu Kempo style of martial arts. It originated in Okinawa and the forerunner of modern day Japanese karate. It uses striking and grappling more than throwing and wrestling found in Judo.

For adult classes, your instructor is Jim Hess. He has been training in the martial arts since 1995 and has earned the rank Nidan, or 3rd degree black belt.

For kids classes, your instructor is Mark Montoya. He has been training in the martial arts since 1997 and has earned the rank of Shodan, or 1st degree black belt.

Both Jim and Mark are continuing to train.
Jim is training with Dave Daniels, 7th Dan in Ryukyu Kempo, "Papa" Paul Keller, 7th Dan in Shorin Ryu, Jim Slothower, 4th Dan in Ryukyu Kempo, and Sensei Stan Miller, 4th Dan in Small Circle Jujitsu.

Mark is training with Jim Slothower, 4th Dan in Ryukyu Kempo and with Jim Hess, 3rd Dan in Ryukyu Kempo.

All ranks are awarded through Hogan Karate International - Oregon Chapter (HKI-OR). At black belt and above, students have the option of having belt awards through HKI and Grand Master Jack Hogan.
