Peter Vander Loon Sr., age 95, of Hudsonville, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 28, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Pearl and his daughter, Alice Louise. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Hank and Jan Vander Loon, Lee and Sally Vander Loon, Peter Jr. and Lucia Vander Loon, Ed and Donna Vander Loon; 19 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; brother, Ted and Arlene Vander Loon; sister, Alice Huizenga; many nieces and nephews. Peter proudly served our country as a member of the US Army during WWII. He survived Normandy and the Battle of the Buldge on December 16, 1944 and was a POW for a brief time. He received the Croix de Guerre from Gen. DeGaulle of France and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was also a lifetime member of Jenison VFW Post 6980. Funeral services will be held on Thursday 2:00 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Bob Huisman officiating.
