Lynden resident, Adrianna "Abe" Tjoelker , went home to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the age of 78. Born September 8, 1931 to Ray and Henrietta (Zwaanstra) Tjoelker, she obtained her Bachelor's Degree in education and dedicated her life for over 30 years to the teaching of elementary school children in Christian schools at Ladner B.C., Sumas and Lynden; including Ebenezer Christian School. Her fun-loving spirit, loyalty and endearing love were attributes treasured by her family and friends. Adrianna is survived by sisters, Margaret (Sid) Baron, Jean (Tony) Kortus, Shirley (Gerald-deceased) Polinder and brothers, Ray (Gert) Tjoelker and Art (Phyllis) Tjoelker. She also leaves behind and will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Abe's family wishes to express its grateful appreciation to the staff at both Meadow Green Retirement Home and Christian Health Care Center for their loving care. Visitation hours will be Wednesday, July 28, 4 to 7 pm at Gillies Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, July 29, 10:15 am in Monumenta Cemetery followed by an 11:00 am memorial service at Second Christian Reformed Church, 8th & Front St., Lynden with Pastor Jim Carberry officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Abe's name may be made to: Lynden Christian Schools, 417 Lyncs Dr., or Ebenezer Christian School, 9390 Guide Meridian Rd. both of Lynden, WA 98264 or a charity of your choice.

Gerald John Polinder was born 1 on 2 Jul 1925 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He died 1 on 7 Nov 2008 in Whatcom County, Washington, USA. Gerald married 1, 2 Shirley Tjoelker 1 on 24 Jun 1958 in Lynden, Whatcom County, Washington, USA.

Gerald John Polinder, age 83, went home to his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 7, 2008. He was born July 2, 1925 to Henry and Minnie (Jager) Polinder in Vancouver, B.C. At age five, he and his family came to the U.S. and settled in the Lynden area. Following high school, Gerald served in the US Navy during WWII and later in life took an interest in the VFW. On June 24, 1958, Gerald married Shirley Tjoelker in Lynden. He was a long time member of Second Christian Reformed Church, where he served as an elder and deacon and personally ministered to prisoners corresponding with them through the Crossroads Program. Baseball was a favorite sport and while pitching for the NW Washington fast pitch team, he became known as "The Busher." A businessman, Gerald was co-owner, along with his father and brother-in-law, of Ferndale Grain Company for many years. He was a faithful volunteer at the Hope Office in Lynden and enjoyed crossword puzzles as a favorite pastime.

Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold and sister, Dorothy; Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Shirley; children, Doug (Jan) of Michigan, Daniel of Custer, Michael (Liliana) of Lynden, Jane (David) Gould of Ferndale and Kim of Seattle; eleven grandchildren; sister, Johanna Terpstra of Lynden and numerous other relatives. Gerald will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Visitation hours will be Tuesday, November 11, 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Gillies Funeral Home. A 1:00 pm memorial service will be held Wed., November 12 at First Christian Reformed Church, 1010 Front St. in Lynden with private burial in Monumenta Cemetery.     Surviving are one daughter, Marta Knox, rural Paxton; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
    One daughter, five brothers, four sisters and one grandson preceded her in death.
    Mrs. McGinty attended Everett Grade School in Chicago and was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Co. in Chicago for 30 years, retiring in 1957. She attended the East Bend Mennonite Church, Fisher, and was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America.
