My dear father, Albert, Osterhart (he spelled it the legal way, Oosterhardt) who owned a cottage on Gay street, north of Frank G1eaon’s, for he past ten years, died at the Illinois Masonic hospital in Chicago on Feb. 22, of a heart attack following a successful operation on the 21st. He was born in the Netherlands and came to this country at the age of 12, residing for a few years in Muskegon, then moving to Chicago. Here he studied at the University of Chicago, Intent on following a journalistic career. Altho he didn’t follow in this career wholey, working as an auditing clerk for the past 22 years with the Chicago Rapid Transit Co., he was book review editor for the old Chicago Evening Post and wrote philosophical articles for the Open Court magazine for years.

Recognized as one of the leaders of the Dutch-Americans in this country he worked actively to promote better relations between and an understanding of the work of the Dutch in this country and throughout the world. Thus he served for years as American representative of the society "Netherlands Abroad," as representative of the Netherlands-American Chamber of Commerce of Amsterdam; as member of the World’s Fair Dutch Day committee; as member of the Queen Wilhelmina Jubilee committee, and he aided in founding the Dutch-American club, the Knickerbocker club of Chicago.

In addition to this work he worked as a translator of Dutch, French or German correspondence for various Chicago firms and for the Dutch consul general in Chicago. In 1936 he compiled reports for the National Republican committee.

Mrs. Ooslerhardt, a daughter, Dena and a son Harvey survive.

Dena Osterhart, 87, of Holland, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 1995, at a local nursing home.
She was born July 6, 1908, in Chicago, where she was raised, and moved to Holland in 1975.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women's Organization, and the Women's Fellowship Group at First Congregational Church of Saugatuck.
She is survived by several cousins.
Private services will be held with the Rev. Rick Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Saugatuck.
Arrangements are by Mulder Chapel, Dykstra Funeral Homes.
