Peter James Jongewaard, 88, of Huntsville, Arkansas, died January 14, 2008 at his home. He was born April 25, 1919 at Wood, South Dakota, the son of Nicholas and Effie Plooster Jongewaard. He was a veteran of World War Two, serving in the United States Army, a Baptist, an avid gardner and loved horses. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Helen Evelyn Veldkamp Jongewaard on February 27, 2007. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Donald Jay Jongewaard and David Keith Jongewaard.
Survivors include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, James Allen Jongewaard of Morris, Illinois and Wayne Ray and Joni Jongewaard of Mayfield, Arkansas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis Elaine and Martin Novak of Harrison, Arkansas, Rosellen Lee and Rick Gatto of Thompson Falls, Montana and Karen Jean and Jerry Jones of Huntsville, Arkansas; sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P. M. Friday, January 18, at the First Baptist Church in Hindsville, Arkansas with the Reverend Leslie Elam officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home www.brashearsfuneralhome.net of Huntsville, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be: Kenneth James Jongewaard, Scott Allen Jongewaard, Todd Christian Jongewaard, Aaron Wayne Jongewaard, Asa John Jongewaard, Jason Allen Jongewaard, Grant Reid Novak, Ivan Nicholas Novak, Micah Andrew Jones and Damon Brant. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P. M. to 8:00 P. M. on Thursday at the funeral home.
