John Jarboe 1 was born 2 in 1619 in Dijon, France. He died 2 on 4 Mar 1674 in St. Mary's County, Maryland. John married Mary Tattershall.

John Jarboe first appears in the colonies in Virginia in 1646. By a deposition made 25 January 1647 and recorded in the Archives of Maryland, he says he was with Governor Calvert at Kicotan (Kecoughtan, afterwards Elizabeth City) and at York, Virginia when the Governor was organizing his expedition against William Claiborne.

He settled near Newtown (not far from present-day Leonardtown) in St, Mary's County, Maryland.

No record of any other Jarboe immigrating to America has been found. In the first United States census of 1790, all Jarboes of the country lived in Maryland.

After her husband's death, Mary Tattershall Jarboe married William Gough and lived in Calvert County, Maryland.
