Proud Marine Mom Pens Words of Comfort for Military Families

Pays tribute to our “newest, greatest generation” of warriors

LONGWOOD, FLThere were times when author Catherine DePew was awakened in the night by God to write Blue Star in My Window ($15.99, paperback, 978-1-60477-281-4) as His assignment. “There would be no sleep until I wrote,” she explains. “When I obeyed, He literally gave me songs in the night and beautiful Scriptures that comforted me as nothing else could comfort.” Her book, which comforts and encourages military families during times of deployment and homecoming in our post-9/11 world also pays tribute to our “newest, greatest generation” of warriors.

The writings include the prayers, hopes, and fears of one military mom during her Marine son’s two deployments to Fallujah, Iraq, from 2005-2006 and again in 2007. During the time of his deployment, DePew stumbled upon her grandmother’s and mother’s diaries, written during World War II—and learned that sixty years later, she felt the same concern for her child as her grandmother had felt when her Marine son deployed to Europe one month before D-Day. “As that settled into my bones, I felt God’s comfort that, as He was there for my grandmother, He would be there for me as well. I call it a ‘link in the chain,’” the author says.

A proud Marine mom, DePew is already garnering interest in her book from several Marine and military organizations, all of whom are interested in obtaining a copy. “There is such a strong desire for community among the parents who dot our nation’s landscape and who have paid a dear price for the troop surge for which President Bush called,” she explains.
