Along The Rhine

The ruins of Schloss Ehrenfels, as viewd looking down river along the Rhine in Bingen. The castle was built in the first half of the 13th century, and destroyed in 1689. Bingen was also the birthplace of my great-great-grandmother, Anna Maria Scheidt.

Die Pfalz- Located in the Rhine, which as you can see was at a high level during our visit. Another thing you noticed is the scaffolding. Seems like we see a lot of that on our two visits to Germany. This small castle was built at the beginning of the 14th century, and was only conquered once.

Burg Katz, above St Goarhausen. Because of the poor natural lighting of the day of our visit, the good pics were far and few inbetween. This is one of the better shots I took that day. Hopefully next trip will be a sunnier vacation.

Marksburg, situated above Braubach. It was built before the 13th century, and is the best preserved castle from the middle ages. Although it suffered heavy artillery damage during the last world war, it has been extensivley restored.

Schloss Stolzenfels, a ruin that was reconstructed during the 18th century.

Koblenz, where the Mosel, on the right, flows into the Rhine. Dad and Peter are pictured down below this large monument at the rivers junction. Unfortunatly, because of the heavy cloud cover, I could not get a good picture of the monument to Kaiser Wilhelm.
