Professionally trained as a counselor and social worker, Lisa began exploring and playing with clay about ten years ago. Each piece is individually handbuilt–although Lisa repeats designs, no casts are made from originals. Her works are then fired and decorated with varying finishes including paints, glazes, and an ancient form of slip glaze called terra sigilatta. Sources of inspiration for Lisa's work include the lives and stories of traditional mountain folks (including her own ancestors) , spiritual images, and images of fertility and motherhood. Lisa welcomes visitors year-round to her studio. She is available for commissions, especially using photographs to craft a loved one in clay.
