Under Construction!
I have identified 5 unique models of motors which were shipped as standard equipment on the various models of metal Unimats. I am not addressing the mostly plastic Unimat 1 in this discussion.
1) Original Induction Motor with Capacitor Start: This was one of the motors which was supplied on the Original Unimat DB200. They are VERY smooth running and extremely quiet compared to the later "universal" bush-type motors. I have only seen them painted DB200 Hammer Finish Silver.
2) Dutch Built 1/15hp Universal Motor. These motors have a black case and are manufactured in Holland. I have seen them supplied all black and with the center portion of the motor case painted to match the Unimat. I do not know if this two-tone paint scheme represents a re-paint or was factory original. I originally believed this motor type was a replacement motor which came on a first generation DB200. I purchased. Since the seller was NOT the original owner I couldn't ascertain whether it was original equipment or not. I have since verified with the original owner of another first generation DB200 that his came from the factory with this motor installed. It has a stated speed of 4000 RPM.
3) U90 Universal Motor: This motor is what I believe was the third generation of motors on the Original Unimat DB200. This motor has a stated speed of 4000 to 5000 RPM's and has the on-off switch in the power cord.
The usage of this motor spanned three different models of Unimats. It is found on the original cast iron Unimat DB200, where it is painted to match the Hammer-finish silver of those machines. It is supplied with the alloy Unimat SL - Model DB200. and the Unimat SL1000, which was also a cast alloy version. They were painted the same Unimat SL - Model DB200 Hammer-finish Green on both the Unimat SL - Model DB200, and the Unimat SL1000. This means there are MANY Unimats which were shipped from the factory with motors who's colors did not match the Unimat on which is was supplied!
4) U100 Universal Motor This motor was a departure for Unimats in that it has a plastic case and is double insulated. The on-off switch is a large orange slide affair mounted on top of the motor. The stated speed and horse power rating are 4000 RPM and 1/10 hp respectfully. This motor is rated at 95 watts.
5) U7750 Universal Motor This motor marked a return to an all metal case for Unimat motors. The power switch is located on top of the motor housing and is a small white push-button toggle switch. The electrical characteristics are the same as the U100. This is in my opinion the best looking of the motors on the original series Unimats
6) Unimat 3 Universal Motor This motor appears to share some of the case components of the U7750 motor. However, it has a built-in two speed electronic speed control. The lower speed selection provides a speed approximately one-half the speed of the full-speed setting. Since it is an SCR electronic control nearly all the torque of the full-speed setting is preserved.
I have no information on the motor supplied with the Unimat 4.
