Most historical research is conducted in archives or libraries.
Some archives, like the Illinois Regional Archive Depositories, stand alone. Others are part of libraries. Museums collect
historical artifacts, but they often also have libraries and archives. Private citizens own valuable secondary and primary
sources and should not be overlooked.
All of the criteria used to evaluate online sources apply to library,
archive, and museum sources.
- The information must be accurate.
- The author should be an authority on the topic.
- The motive of the content - to inform, convince, or sell - pertains.
- The topic must be adequately covered.
- The publication date should be included.
- A Bibliography should be provided.
