Our History Who are the Eagles?
On February 6th, 1898 the Fraternal Order of EAgles was founded by six theater owners sitting on a pile of
lumber in Moran's shipyard in Seattle Washington. Competitors in the theater industry, they met to discuss a musicians
strike. After deciding what to do on that issue, they decided to bury the hatchet and form an organization dubbed "The
Order of Good Things."
The first meetings were held on the stages of various local theaters and after the business was settled they
would enjoy a few hours of social activities. A few weeks later as their numbers grew they chose the Bald Eagle as their
official emblem and changed the name to "The Fraternal Order of Eagles."
Since those early days the Eagles have grown to over 1 million members in over 1,700 cities across the United
States and Canada. Seven United States Presidents have been members and the Eagles continue to be a major force in social
reform by raising millions of dollars for those less fortunate and to help find cures for the diseases that ail mankind.
Although many do not know it, the Eagles have touched every persons life in one way or another. Mother's Day, Social
Security, Medicare and laws p reventing Age Discrimination in the workplace are a few of the things the Eagles have had a
hand in.
EVENTS
As Eagles we recognize that the needs of the many will always out weigh the needs of the few. We love to raise
money for our Charities and are known as "People Helping People." As Eagles we do many of the same things you do, but
by doing them at the Eagles Aerie (lodge) we raise money for charity in the process.
Specific events vary from Aerie to Aerie, but a list of the things we do would include:
Dinners, Dances, Karaoke Nights, Bingo, BBQ's, Picnic's, Golf, Softball and Horseshoe Tournaments. Holiday events
for New Years, Valentines Day, Easter, Mother's Day, the 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Also,
Aeries have a social room where people can enjoy socializing with other members. Things such as playing cards, pool,
darts, and video games are just a few of the activities enjoyed by our members.
As you can see, we do many of the same things you do. We refer to each other as Brothers and Sisters and when it
comes to Eagles, there are no strangers, just friends we have yet to meet.
