This web site is about my favorite hobby, amateur telescope making.
If you like looking at the stars and you like building things, telescope making is a great
hobby. It is very satisfying to look at the heavens with an instrument that you built yourself.
Buy a book or two. For helpful telescope plans I recommend Build Your Own Telescope
by Richard Berry and The Dobsonian Telescope by Kriege and Berry.
For making your own mirror, you can never have too many books - it seems like each
author has a helpful perspective. Some books I recommend are How to Make a Telescope
by Texereau, All About Telescopes by Sam Brown (if you can find a copy), and
Build Your Own Telescope by Richard Berry.
Read about it on the web. One useful site to start at is the
Stellafane site.
Join the ATM list,
an online emailing list where the topic is telescope making. It's
a great resource for searching, and if you have a question to ask, there are many
knowledgable people who are happy to give advice.
