The Soup Line Project

American Outreach to Ethiopia (AOE) is a Jacksonville, Illinois based tax-exempt charitable not-for-profit organization with a two-fold purpose: educate the American people on the plight of the Ethiopian people and solicit American support to help relieve suffering and restore human dignity in Ethiopia.

Today Ethiopia faces its worst famine since 1984 when more than a million people starved to death. Responding to the unfolding human tragedy, AOE, working in close concert with the Ethiopian Rotary, the church and student volunteers, is ready to serve.

Preliminary plans are to implement the Soup Line Project in two phases. Phase one will establish two Soup Lines in two neighboring towns near the capital city of Addis Ababa. Each location will cater to 300 people daily. The menu will consist of injera (bread) and wat (stew). Phase two will establish Soup Lines in four other rural centers, two locations in each town, each location also serving 300 people a day.

SOUP LINE START-UP COSTS
Estimated cost of durable equipment needed to set up a single site is $930.
