George served in the Mexican War as a private in Capt. Miller's Company I, 2nd Illinois Regiment. He enlisted 24 Jun 1846 in Monroe County, IL. He participated in the battle of Buena Vista in Feb 1847 and was discharged 18 Jun 1847 in Camargo, Mexico. In 1848, in Union County, IL, he applied for three month's extra pay that was due him. In 1887 in Neeleyville, MO, he filed for a pension. In 1893, he was sick in bed and wholly disabled from sciatic rheumatism. He was an Engineer (1870 Census).
