Central is a part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the largest American-born religious movement in the U.S. and Canada.  Barton W. Stone, one of the founders of this movement, was also the founder of this congregation in 1832.  Since that time, Central Christian Church has been a vital part of the Christian Community in Jacksonville.

 

The "Disciples", as we are known:

• Celebrate communion each time we gather
• Practice baptism by Immersion
• Believe in the autonomy of the local congregation
• Has no creed but Christ
• Has no book of authority but the Bible
• And believes in the freedom of each person to follow Christ according to his or her understanding
