Rudiments are the "bread and butter" of every percussionist's bag of technique. The drum roll routine which can be downloaded below will help get you started on the most basic rolls. Once you've mastered these rolls, visit the Vic Firth website for some in depth information on the 40 Essential Rudiments, as outlined by the Percussive Arts Society, as well as video instruction on concert,marching and drum set techniques.

Choose the open-close-open audio track to get a quick overview of the rudiment - notice the music and sticking at the top of the webpage. Next click on the video link to see a performance of the open-close-open rudiment. Finally, click on the Level: Bronze link and play along with the recording.
