William 'Bill" Hurst¹ was born^{1, 2} about 1789 in Shenandoah Co. Virginia. He died^{1, 3, 4} on 6/6 Jan 1863/1866 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. William married^{1, 5, 6} Sarah Southern about 1818 in Claiborne County, Tennessee.

William was born⁷. He had a will in 1866 in Claiborne County, Tennessee.

William evidently came to Claiborne Co. prior to the year of 1819 the birth of Robert. In 1825 he had a land entry on waters of Sycamore Creek in 1825.

A William Hurst living in Claiborne County in 1860 US Census with a wife Susan. He born in 1789 probab ly VA she b. in 1800. Children Eldridge age 30, Daniel 17, Rowland 15. CL 126/310 1860.

Personal propearty tax list B 1789 Montgomery, Co. 1 June 1789 lists a William Hurst with no males 16 to 21. No Slaves. P. 94 Locating resident of Tax payer as being part of Wythe Co. VA in 1793.

This may be the William who bought land on Blairs Creek from William, son of Mill Creek John. See p. 18 Hurst Book. William, son of John Hurst, Jr., son of Mill Creek John, was born abt.1787 Went from Claiborn to McMinn Co. TN. Later returned to Claiborne Co. Appears to own half interest in fathers hone place sold interest in 1839. nothing further is known of him.

Phillip H. Hurst states that William Hurst, Son of Absalom Hurst, brother to Mark and John may have returned to Wythe Co. VA.

Old time Tazewell states that Robert Hurst's father was William Hurst of Little Sycamore. John Estes who came to Little Sycamore frm Fairfax Co. Va Prior to 1800 had a daughter Mary who married a William Hurst. See E. Mail from 'Nancy' in William Hurst section of Hurst binder. A William Hurst in the 1830 Census of Claiborne Co. was born 1780-90 his wife 1800 he had two sons under five years one son 10-15 which must be Robert born in 1819 and william was 40-50 years. Two daughters 5-10 years.

Sarah Southern [Parents]^{1, 2} was born^{1, 2} in 1800 in Tennessee. She died¹ about 1882 in Tax List 1881- 1882, Claiborne, Tennessee. Sarah married^{1, 2, 3} William 'Bill" Hurst about 1818 in Claiborne County, Tennessee.

Gwen and William S. Hurst both believe that Sarah Southern was the wife of William as William Hurst was exector of Robert Southern's Estate. Sarah was the daughter of Robert. Also The first son of William and Sarah was named Robert.

Sarah appears on the 1881 Tax List for Claiborne County. She does not appear on the 1882 List.
