Teunis ‘Bob' Sterk, age 83 of Lynden, went home to his Lord on Thursday, March 16, in Bellingham.

He was welcomed into this world on October 13, 1922 by his parents, John and Minnie (Plooster) Sterk in Harrison, South Dakota. He grew up in Harrison and moved with his family to Whatcom County in 1943.

He married his beloved wife Sena Groothuis on August 6, 1946.

He worked at Mt. Baker Plywood until 1956 when he began dairy farming. Bob and his wife Sena, continued farming for most of their married life. Bob will also be remembered by many for delivering the weekly Lynden Tribune for thirty-one years.

Things that Bob truly enjoyed were: carpentry work on the farm, coffee time with his friends, and visiting with his family. He was content wit the simple things of life and will always be remembered for loving the Lord and others. He was also a member of the First Christian Reformed Church.

Bob is survived by his wife Sena; four children, Marilyn and husband Joseph Branion, Ardelle and husband Blaine Kooy, Robert and wife Diane Sterk and Larry and wife Chere Sterk all of Whatcom County; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and four step grandchildren; brother Mike (Angie) Sterk of Harrison, SD; sisters JoAnne (Don) Vander Heiden of Platte, SD; Edith (Raymond) Porter of Geddes, SD; Leona (Jerry) Kerwin of Porum, OK and Henrietta (Dan) Chitwood of Lynden; sisters-in-law Betty Sterk and Nellie Sterk of Lynden and Marie Sterk of Platte, SD and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation hours will be from 1 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, at Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden. Family members will be present to greet friends between 3 and 5 p.m.

Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, March 20, at 1:15 p.m. in Monumenta Cemetery followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Barry Blankers officiating.

Sena Groothuis was born on 12 Mar 1920 in Neerlandia, Alberta, Canada. She died on 4 Nov 2011 in Lynden, Whatcom County, Washington, USA. Sena married Teunis Sterk "Bob" on 6 Aug 1946 in Lynden, Whatcom County, Washington, USA.

Sena Sterk, age 91 of Lynden, went home to her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 4, 2011. The daughter of Wouter and Johanna (Bosch) Groothuis, she was born March 12, 1920 in Neerlandia, Alberta, Canada; and as a young child came to the US with her family; where they first lived in Everett and later moved to Whatcom County. Growing up she attended Everett Christian and Lynden Christian schools. On Aug. 6, 1946, Sena married Teunis “Bob” Sterk in Lynden and together they raised their family and dairy farmed. Sena was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who had a deep concern for each one’s spiritual well-being. She loved people and discussions about the “things” of the Lord; she also enjoyed Bible studies, singing with the hymn singers, playing bocci ball, and delivering the Lynden Tribune with her husband for 30 years. Sena was a lifelong member of First Christian Reformed Church in Lynden; but also had many fond memories of teaching Sunday School at the Wiser Lake Chapel. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Teunis “Bob” Sterk in 2006 and her brother Dick Groothuis in 1980; Sena is survived by her children: Marilyn (Joe) Branion, Ardelle (Blaine) Kooy, Robert (Diane) Sterk and Larry (Cheré) Sterk all of Whatcom County; thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law: Betty Sterk, Nellie Sterk, Henrietta (Dan) Chitwood of Lynden; Jo-Anne (Don) Vander Heiden, Edith Porter of South Dakota; Leona (Jerry) Kirwan of Missouri; brother-in-law Mike (Angie) Sterk of South Dakota. Visitation hours are scheduled Tuesday, Nov. 15, 3 to 5 pm at Gillies Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted in Monumenta Cemetery on Wed., Nov. 16, 1:15 pm followed by a 2:00 pm memorial service at First Christian Reformed Church, 1010 Front St., Lynden with Rev. Robert Woodyard officiating. Memorials in Sena’s name are suggested to the American Indian Bible Institute, P.O. Box 110, Lynden, WA 98264.
