COALINGA – Graveside services for Reginald Orville Phelps, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Mr. Phelps died Wednesday.
He was born in Hanford and moved to Coalinga a year later.
He was a retired public works director for Coalinga. He had been with the department for 35 years.
He was a volunteer fireman and a member of the Eagles Lodge for 60 years. In 1984, he was selected as grand marshal of the Coalinga Horned Toad Derby Days.
Surviving are his wife, Dora; a daughter, Loy Haney of Watsonville; a son, Robert Phelps of Ohio; a brother, Vernal Phelps of Fresno; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Dora Claire Donnel [Parents] was born ¹ on 11 Jun 1908 in Lemoore Ca. She died ² on 3 Nov 2004 in Coalinga, California, USA. She was buried ³ in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Coalinga, Fresno County, California, USA. Dora married Reginald Orville Phelps ⁴ on 17 Jun 1926.

    Mrs. Phelps, a resident of Coalinga for 76 years passed away Nov. 3, 2004. She married the late Reginald O. Phelps, former superintendent of Public Works for the city of Coalinga. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1976.
    Mrs. Phelps was a charter member of the Coalinga Parlor of the Native Daughters of the Golden West from 1938 until it disband in 2004 having been president for 50 years and secretary. She was also very active in the Eagles Auxiliary for many years. After her children were grown Mrs. Phelps was employed by Deverick's Market, Buchanan's Gift Shop and Canaday's Gifts.
    Survivors include sons Robert D. Phelps of Cincinnati, Ohio, Loy L. Haney of Watsonville; grandchildren Lee Haney of Peoria, Ariz., Marilyn Elliott of Salinas, Regina Goines, Michael Phelps, Margaret Handleton and Joseph Phelps of Cincinnati, Andrew Phelps of Fairbanks, Alaska, Vincent Phelps of Philadelphia, Pa.; 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
    Mrs. Phelps was preceded in death by her husband Reginald and parents Samuel Donnel and Verna Hotchkiss Donnel.
    The family would like to thank Dr. G. H. Patino for his care during the last hours of her life and also to her dear friend and neighbor for 58 years, June Nankervis.
