"The Giving Tree"

On behalf of our PGC, this year I was assigned the task of selecting 2 names from the holiday "Giving Tree", located at the Pardeeville Dentist office.  I didn't realize how difficult it would be to select 2 children, as there were dozens of cards beckoning for my attention on that tree.
Finally, I chose a 5 yr. old girl, and an 11 yr. old boy.

For those of you who haven't done this before, each card comes with the information of gender, age, "needs", and "wants".  Again, this was a bit of a challenge, as clothes were definitely needed in both cases, but being the appointed "elf", I wanted to find a sweet surprise from the "wants" list as well.

I shopped for bargains the day after Thanksgiving, and was excited to find plenty!  Our 5 yr. old girl was given a pretty pink hooded sweatshirt with matching sweatpants, and a big box of "arts and crafts" to be creative with...beads, glitter, paints, etc.  Our 11 yr. old boy will be wearing a new "Packers" green and gold coat with a matching cap.  He'll also be able to play with a mini-pen-racecar, so popular with boys at recess these days.
I hope both kids had smiles on their faces when they opened their gifts!

The joy of giving during the holidays definitely surpasses the getting, in my book...and at my age!  Thanks, PGC, for your generosity.  The many, many efforts of our club...initially formed for gardeners and gardening "wannabees"...are truly far-reaching.  Once again, I've got another reason to be proud of this club!
