THE HOLY SPIRIT
I am so thankful that God gave us his Holy Spirit to seal us and keep us in rememberance of his Word.  It's truly interesting to note that in most churches there is a practice of memorizing scripture.  We even practice it here at Niles Avenue Baptist and for good reason, to help get the Word of God in our hearts and minds.  I suppose some wish they could even be as good as Jack Van Impe!  However, even though I cannot quote chapter and verse like him, I KNOW GOD's WORD!  The Holy Spirit brings to mind his Word every time I am in a situation, just worshiping in my heart or trying to witness to someone.  I can quote it perfectly, but when someone wants to see it in the Bible for themselves, I just whip out my electronic Bible and can find it for them quick.  Granted knowing chapter and verse would have come in handy, but that kind of memorization takes work and if you don't use it every day, you will lose it.  But you never LOSE the Words!  The Holy Spirit is there to keep you mindful of them.  So just read you Bible everyday, get the word into your heart and mind, then the Holy Spirit will do the rest!  Amen!

GRIEVING THE HOLY SPIRIT
The third person in the holy trinity.  One thing God's word makes very clear is the work of the Holy Spirit.  There is simply no way for a child of God to sin and be happy.  The Holy Spirit reminds us and teaches us everything Jesus taught.  He is equally good at show us the sin in our lives.  This sin in our lives which grieves the Holy Spirit shows its fruit in the form of remorse, anger and depression especially lack of self worth.  Sometime when we are about to do something and we KNOW it is wrong and do it anyway, the waves of grief afterwards makes us wonder why we went ahead and did it anyway.  We may even knew we were going to feel bad afterwards, but did it anyway, but the waves of grief and regret are difficult to image until you have experienced them.  We vow never to do it again and repent only later to find ourselves faced with the same temptation again.  Only now the waves of grief our gone, like before, knowing we will feel bad but can quite remember how terrible the waves of grief felt.  The Bible describes this as going around the mountain again.  How many times will it take before you learn not to grieve the Holy Spirit?  I believe that all depends on your relationship to Jesus.  How close are you to him?  How often do you pray?  By praying we draw closer to God and God's presence illuminates the sin in our lives that need to be dealt with and helps us to prioritize our life according to his will.  If you have ever experienced the grief that comes from a sinful act as a child of God, you know exactly what I am talking about.  Confess your sin today right now so that it can be forgive and forgotten once and for all.

1 Samuel 16:7  The Lord does not see as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

COAT DRIVE - We want to bless people this winter by providing them with a coat, hat, scarf or gloves.  If you have any of these items in storage, in closets or simply laying around in the way and you KNOW you will most likely never wear these items again, please bring them in to the church so that they can be bundled up and given to someone who could really use them now.  God bless you as you give.

FAMILY BIBLE STUDY - We want to invite you to come to our Family Bible study.  You will get sound Biblical teaching and great fellowship.  It begins at 10am and we have a class just for you.

SPECIAL MUSIC - We are in need of singers and musicians for our special music for Sunday morning.  If you would like to help, please let Shirley King know or call (269) 303-0330.

JUST ASK SOMEONE - This week will you ask someone to come to church?  It is easy to do.  Just try and see what happens.

REMINDER: We have a Prayer dish and Praise dish in the foyer.  All are welcome to put your requests in and we will pray over these and add them to the next bulletin for prayer. You can also go to the prayer section of this website to submit prayer requests online.
