kept in the glove compartment
Suggested Driving Skills Checklist

your teen
HINT: Buy a car of substantial size and

HighwaySafety.org - Vehicle_Ratings
Insist on classroom
AND On-the-road practice
HINT: If your teens drivers education
class does not provide this free of charge,
ask about a fee based program. Or consider
a private driving school.
Set the ground rules
HINT: Develop a "driving contract" with
rules, responsibilities and the necessary
consequences and punishment for breaking
the rules. Your rules could include no driving
after dark without an adult, or no passengers
in the car for the first 6 months to a year.
Voice your opinion
HINT: Support legislation to pass teen driving
laws in your state such as Graduated
Licensing and Zero Tolerance.
Be a good role model
HINT: Practice what you preach! Your teen
will learn by example. Wear your seat belt,
follow traffic laws, and always use your
best driving habits.
