Be aware that insurance
costs may be higher when a teen is the vehicles
primary driver. However, there are some
ways you can help reduce the cost of insurance:
Raise your deductible (ask your insurance
agent about this option)
See if your teen qualifies for any available
discounts for example, for being
a good-student, having anti-theft devices,
air bags, or anti-lock brakes*
Encourage your teen to keep a clean
driving record (no tickets or crashes)
Select a safe car for your teen
Drop coverages such as collision coverage
for older cars with relatively no cash
values
Research shows that teens who pay for
a portion of the lease or car payment,
maintenance and insurance of their car
are more likely to be safe drivers. You
might consider requiring your teen to
pay a percentage of these costs.
You and your teen
should meet with your insurance agent to
discuss the costs and responsibilities of
driving a car as well as important safety
issues.
