In the OUTfield

Jesse Helms defeated Harvey Gantt in the 1990 Senate election with a barrage of racist and homophobic advertising. His messages included statements accusing Mr. Gant of accepting “homosexual” money in his campaign. I interpreted that message to mean that only gay white men were behind Mr.Gantt when in fact, Senate Vote 90 was a lesbian led (a lesbian of color) effort to oust Helms from office. Many of us worked as volunteers for Senate Vote 90 and I was convinced that we would indeed vote Senator Helms out. I was devastated when we didn’t but even more irate and insulted that lesbians were yet again excluded from recognition for their efforts. I was angered that we weren’t included in the hate filled messages that aired repeatedly from the Helms camp as the election neared. Shortly after the election, I was inspired to create something giving visibility to lesbians in our community.

I
n the OUTField is a mix of stand-up comedy, mime, song, slide show, therapy session and gay pride rally. It is a personal narrative work following the path from a confused childhood through moments of self-realization as an adult, to the threshold of public declaration and celebration of my lesbian identity. The piece debuted in April 1992 in Chapel Hill, NC. Reviewers called In the OUTfield, "a magical tale...funny, sad, frightening, joyful and uniquely honest". "Wolf is a virtuoso performer with a commanding assured presence, comic and supremely humane".

More Solo Work

50!Evolution of a Butch Lesbian

Turning 50 usually means taking a dream trip, letting your friends roast your accomplishments with some embarrassing public event, or maybe launching a mid-life crisis. For me, turning 50 in 2004 meant producing a brand new one-woman show called 50! Evolution of a Butch Lesbian and selling out every seat for its two-performance premiere in the Spring of 2004. Fortunately for Triangle audiences, the show, an eclectic collection of original monologues, was reprised for six more performances at Manbites Dog Theater in Durham.

Ensemble Work

I am a member of the both hands theatre company  performance ensemble and have appeared in their last four original works: parent project, holding pattern, @ liberty and the abundance project.

In 2008 I had the opportunity to play the classic role of Truffaldino in Servant of Two Masters for Deep Dish Theater in Chapel Hill, NC.  Click HERE to see some scenes.
