Mike Todd Announces Re-election Bid for Mill Creek City Council Position #6
Mike Todd has announced his
intention to run for re-election to the position he currently holds on the Mill Creek City Council.
Todd said, “I have
thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Council, and would like to continue to serve our community throughout another term. I have been actively involved in a number of the current Council priorities, and would
like the opportunity to continue to apply my energies to the work we do for our citizens.”
Todd has served on the Council
since May 2005. When Jack Start passed away mid term, Council selected Todd from
a pool of twelve applicants to fill the vacant seat. He then ran for and won
election for the unexpired two tear term in the November 2005 election. Todd
is now seeking re-election to Position #6 for a full four year term.
Todd has served on the Council’s
Capital Project Funding Committee, and was an active participant in the development and refinement of the City’s biennial
budget document. Todd is well known to Council and city staff as one who can
be counted on to dig into the details and make sure that the analysis is complete. “The
budget document defines and communicates the goals and objectives for city government,” Todd said. “I am proud that we were able to put together a budget that addresses the city priorities without
an increase in taxes, and I am proud of the clarity the document refinement process brought to many of the projects and programs
we have before us.”
Educated as an engineer at
Stanford University,
Todd has the aptitude to dig into the details to fully analyze the issues. As a senior manager in product development and
marketing at Fluke, he displayed skill in facilitating and managing diverse teams. Todd
has brought those business and analytical skills to his City Council job. “I’m
here to make sure we thoroughly examine the issues we face and then made logical, well informed decisions about how to preserve
the quality of life we enjoy here in Mill Creek,” Todd said.
Todd also serves as the Council
representative to the City’s Parks and Recreation Board. Before joining
Council, he had served on the Parks Board, and has continued to be involved in various committees related to parks both at
the city and county level. Todd is currently serving as a city representative
for planning the development of Tambark Creek
Regional Park, a 40 acre parcel near 35th
and 180th that is jointly owned by Mill Creek and Snohomish
County. The park is planned
to include both an active use all-weather sports field and an extensive trail system through the natural areas. Todd is well-known as a dedicated community volunteer and advocate for youth sports, serving in various
roles as a coach, referee, and as an administrator and leader on various youth soccer boards.
Todd is presently the City’s
delegate to the WRIA8 (Watershed Resource Inventory Area 8) Salmon Recovery Council, and served on the Sno-Isle Long Range
Capital Planning Advisory Committee.
Todd has summarized his priorities
for office to be:
- Long term growth planning.
Mike will continue to support the City’s strong development standards, and encourage collaboration with neighboring
jurisdictions to guide growth compatible with our vision.
- Programs that serve our population. Mike will support the services desired by our citizens: first-rate police and fire protection, well-maintained
public facilities, and attractive and enjoyable parks and trails.
- Fiscal planning and control.
The costs of the amenities and services we desire must balance with tax revenues.
Our new Town Center
adds to our commercial tax base to help balance our budget long term. Mike will
encourage similar, desirable business development to ensure that the tax burden on the individual is kept as low as possible.
