God heals because of His Compassion:
Matt 9:35-10:1 (It is because of His love and compassion that He healed the multitudes, and commissioned the disciples
to go out and likewise cast out demons and heal.)
35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages,
teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among
the people.
36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because
they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly
is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he
will send forth labourers into his harvest.

home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
Luke
7:13-16 (Jesus had compassion for the dead man’s mother)
13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her,
Weep not.
14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And
he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to
his mother.
Luke
7:16 (The raising of this dead man brought glory to God)
16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great
prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.

had given such power unto men.
Matt
15:30-31 (Miracles bring glory to God)
30 And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame,
blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:

the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.
Luke 5:26 (When
the paralytic was healed, they glorified God. Parallel to Matt 9:8 )

fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.

12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
13 And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and
glorified God.
Luke
17:15 (One leper gave glory to God after being healed)
15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with
a loud voice glorified God,
John
14:13-14 (Jesus is still glorified through miracles today)
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that
will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing
in my name, I will do it.
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Acts
4:21 (All men glorified God because of the miracle of the
lame man at Gate Beautiful)
21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing
how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.

33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the
Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

4:14 (the fame should ultimately point to Jesus and glorify Him only)
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went
out a fame of him through all the region round about.
Miracles Bring People to Jesus, to Believe, and to Salvation:
John
2:23 (Many believed because of the miracles)
23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed
in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.
John
4:48 (signs and wonders to believe)
48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders,
ye will not believe.
John
6:2 (Miracles caused people to follow Jesus)
2 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which
he did on them that were diseased.
John
9:16 (Miracles softened some of even the hardest of hearts)
16 Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he
keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles ? And there was a division among
them.
John
11:15 (so even the disciples would believe, speaking of Lazerus’s resurrection)
15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there,
to the intent ye may believe ; nevertheless let us go unto him.
John
11:42 (again, Lazarus is raised, that they may believe who Jesus is)
42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because
of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
John
11:45 (Lazarus is raised, and many Jews believed)
45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which
Jesus did, believed on him.
John
11:47-48 (Pharisees fear that all men will believe)
47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said,
What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.
48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall
come and take away both our place and nation.
John
14:10-15 (believe because of the works, and that the Father may be glorified)
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the
Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11 Believe me that I am in
the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
12 Verily, verily, I say unto
you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do;
because I go unto my Father.
1 Cor
14:22 (Spiritual gifts are signs)
22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe , but to them
that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe .
Acts
3:11 (one miracle, and the people gather, and about five thousand get saved in Acts 4:4)
11 And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people
ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering.
Acts
4:4 (through the miracles, many believed and were saved)
4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the
men was about five thousand.
Acts
5:12-16 (Miracles caused the people to magnify the Lord, and multitudes were saved)
12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among
the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.
13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified
them.
14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and
women.)
15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them
on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.
16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem,
bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.
John
4:29-30 (prophetic gifts can draw people to Jesus)
29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this
the Christ?
30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
Acts
15:12 (testimonies of miracles gets the attention of the audience)
12 Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and
Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.
Heb 2:3-4
(signs and wonders are a witness to receive salvation)
3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first
began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers
miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?
To Show Who Jesus is:
John
10:37-38 (to confirm who Jesus was and show the approval of God)
37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
38 But if I do, though ye believe not me,
believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
Acts
2:22 (miracles show the approval of God)
22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of
God among you by miracles and wonders and signs , which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
John
3:2 (Miracles are a sign of God’s favor)
2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that
thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
To Confirm the preaching of the Word, or Fulfill the Scripture:
Matt 8:16-17 (To confirm the Word, or fulfill scripture)
16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed
with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet,
saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses. (‘Infirmities’ and ‘sicknesses’ reads ‘sicknesses’
and ‘pains’ in my Spanish Bible. Likewise, in Isaiah 53:4 our English reads 'griefs' and 'sorrows',
but the correct interpretation is 'sicknesses' and 'pains'.)
Mark
16:20 (Notice that the word ‘them’
is italicized in most bibles. This is an added word that was not in the original
text. The Lord works with the WORD. The
Lord confirms His WORD. He is not working with the disciples, but working with
the Word they speak. Jesus is the Word.
The Word is confirmed with signs following.)
20 And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with (them), and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
Acts
4:29-30 (boldness to speak the Word through the miracles)
29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants,
that with all boldness they may speak thy word,
30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may
be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.
Acts
14:3 (signs and wonders accompany the speaking of the Word)
3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony
unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
Rom 15:18-19
(to bring obedience to the faith, & the word is preached fully with signs and wonders)
18 For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not
wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed,
19 Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so
that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.
1 Thess
1:5 (the gospel should come with power, and not in word only)
5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in
the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
Luke
4:32 (word with power)
32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power .
Luke
4:36-37 (power necessary for deliverance comes through spoken words)
36 And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word
is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.
37 And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.
1 Cor
2:4-5 (demonstrations accompany the preaching and bring faith)
4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom,
but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power :
5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power
of God.
1 Cor
2:2-4 (The important thing is Jesus Christ and him crucified. This is good apostolic doctrine. Notice
that Paul preaches the Word with demonstrations of the power.)
2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and
him crucified.
3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom,
but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
1 Cor
4:19-20 (the kingdom is not in word, but in power)
19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the
speech of them which are puffed up, but the power .
20 For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power .
1 Thess
1:5 (the gospel is to be preached with accompanying signs)
5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power , and in
the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
Acts
8:6 (miracles gave credence to the things Philip spoke)
6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip
spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
Signs are for Apostles, Believers, & Ministers
Cor 12:12
(signs of an apostle are: signs, wonders, and mighty deeds)
12 Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in
signs , and wonders, and mighty deeds.
Mark
16:17-18 (signs accompany believers)
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe ; In
my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18.They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any
deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Gal 3:5 (‘Ministering’ and ‘miracles’ are mentioned
side by side. [The working of miracles is by the hearing of faith.
Jesus commanded us saying, ‘be careful how you hear’].)
5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among
you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Eph 3:7
(the power to minister)
7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God
given unto me by the effectual working of his power
We Are Encouraged to Walk In and/or Believe for Signs
Mark
9:23 (all things possible, if you believe)
23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things
are possible to him that believeth.
Mark
11:23-24 (Whosoever can have whatsoever he saith, if he believes.)
23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say
unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that
those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe
that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Eph 1:17-20
(Paul prays that we would know the exceeding greatness of His power)
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto
you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what
is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe , according to the working of his mighty power,
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him
at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Heb 11:6
(God desires faith)
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to
God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Matt
6:13 (We are to pray for God’s kingdom to come, with the power and the glory)
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from
evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power , and the glory, for ever. Amen.
1 Cor
12:7-11 (spiritual manifestations [gifts] are for ‘every
man’)
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word
of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by
the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles ; to another prophecy; to another discerning
of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing
to every man severally as he will.
1 Cor
12:28-31 (We are commanded to earnestly covet the best gifts)
28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets,
thirdly teachers, after that miracles , then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of
miracles ?
30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more
excellent way.
1 Cor
14:1 (Paul says it again so it must be important, , ‘desire
gifts, especially prophecy’.)
14:1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye
may prophesy.
Eph 6:10
(We are encouraged to be strong in HIS power)
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
2 Thess
1:11-12 (Paul prays for our faith to work with power, to glorify Jesus)
11 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy
of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power :
12 That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye
in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Tim
1:7 (Even though ‘power’ is mentioned first, it is my experience that these three work hand
in hand.) [‘Sound
mind’ interprets ‘self discipline’.]
7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power , and of love,
and of a sound mind.
2 Tim
3:5 (Godliness comes with power. Turn from those that deny
the power.)
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn
away.
Rom 8:30-32 (the called are glorified.
God gives us all things through Christ)
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called,
them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified .
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against
us?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall
he not with him also freely give us all things?
The Disciples are Commissioned with Power
Matt
9:6 (Healings confirm power to forgive sins, which Christ
delegates to the apostles in John 20:23 [see below] )
6 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power
on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and
go unto thine house.
John
20:22-23 (The disciples are commissioned with power to forgive sins also)
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and
saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto
them; and whose soever sins ye retain , they are retained.
Matt
10:1 (The 12 disciples commissioned to walk in power)
10:1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power
against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
Luke
10:5 (The 70 disciples are commissioned, not just the 12)
9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them,
The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
Matt
28:18-20 (Christ delegates all power to the disciples)
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power
is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have
commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
The Holy Ghost is Power:
(The Greek word for ‘power’ that is always associated
with the Holy Ghost is the word where we get ‘dynamite’. It is an
awesome, mountain-moving power like dynamite.)
Luke
24:49 (The Holy Ghost is power)
49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you:
but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
Acts 1:8
8 But ye shall receive power , after that the Holy Ghost
is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost
part of the earth.
Eph 3:20
(that power that works in us is the HOLY GHOST)
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we
ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
To Destroy the Works of the Devil
Acts
10:38 (This is simple: Jesus healed all. Sickness and oppression is from the devil.)
38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power :
who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
1 John 3:8 (To Destroy the Works of the Devil)
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil
sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Other Various Reasons:
It is a covenant promise
It is God’s nature
It is God’s will
It is in His word
Jesus healed all that asked in faith
