Hellsing: The Dawn--No Cover AvailableThe Dawn is a prequel to the Hellsing series. It takes place in 1944, during World War Two, and features a teenaged Walter Dorneaz and an oddly young-looking Alucard. The two infiltrate the Millennium Group, meet The Major and Dok, and fight The Captain and Rip van Winkle.
The Dawn is important to Hellsing because it shows what led to the present plot. In Volume 3 of the manga, Alucard and Walter stand in the library and discuss their long-ago fight with Millenium; in The Dawn, we get to see that fight happen.
It's amusing to see how Hellsing's characters looked and behaved back in 1944. Walter Dorneaz is a grinning, mouthy teen, and Alucard has taken a youthful form as well. We also get to see Arthur Hellsing (Integra's father) not as an ill older man, but as a clever, energetic hellion. Sir Islands, who in OVA 2 is a calm, stoic character, is here seen as rather fussy and easily upset--particularly when he has to deal with Arthur's drinking and womanizing.
The Dawn has not been released in book form yet, and is not available in print form except as issues in Young King OURs.
