Dr. Stollings has demonstrated outstanding leadership by bringing and/or improving health care services to rural populations, not only in southern West Virginia, but also throughout the state. Specific examples include:

  • Serving as President of the West Virginia State Medical Association. At the same time, he was elected by his fellow West Virginia physicians to serve on the provisional board of the West Virginia Physician Mutual where he also served as Secretary;
  • Serving as the southern West Virginia leader for the West Virginia Coalition for Quality Healthcare's Acute MI GAP in the Mountains Quality Improvement Project;
  • Helping to establish the Family Wellness Center in Madison, WV, to increase health-care availability and accessibility;
  • Advocating to improve the Prescription Assistance Programs process to get medications to indigent patients throughout West Virginia; and
  • Serving as a former chair and founding board member of the West Virginia Medical Foundation, the educational and charitable organization of the West Virginia State Medical Association.

Dr. Stollings works to ensure the provision of outstanding care by leading quality initiatives as well as participating and delivering continuing medical education. Examples include:

  • Chairing the Quality Improvement Committee at Boone Memorial Hospital,
  • Serving as faculty for several years for the Statewide Tobacco Cessation Training for Healthcare Providers,
  • Serving on the West Virginia Cardiovascular Health Advisory Council, and
  • Encouraging his group’s private medical practice to participate in a national pilot program for electronic medical records to enhance the quality and efficiency of care.

Dr. Stollings also is a leader in his local community. He spearheaded the effort to develop the Madison Wellness Trail. He is a member and former president of the Madison Rotary Club. Also, he is a former president and active member of the Boone County Chapter of WVU Alumni and Friends. In addition, he has served as chair of the Boone County United Way for the past three years. Finally, he serves as chairman of the Corridor G Regional Economic Development Authority. As chairman he led the effort to develop a five-year strategic economic development plan for Boone, Lincoln, Logan and Mingo counties.

Dr. Stollings believes that health-care, the economy and education are strongly linked. He is very supportive of education opportunities such as the Health Sciences and Technology Academy. He has been a Rural Health Education Partnership field faculty member since the program began. At the state level, Dr. Stollings previously served as a member of the University System of West Virginia Board of Trustees and as a member of the Higher Education Policy Commission where he chaired the Health Education Committee.
