'Fanesta Dyke Flokstra, now a resident of Beaver Dam, was born on the Getz's Lakewood property. Her father was a zookeeper and her mother cooked food for the men working on the farm. Although her family left the property when she was only 5, she remembers the elephant, Nancy.
"Oh, I can see it now, Nancy spraying all the people with her trunk while they laughed and yelled," Flokstra said last week.

Fanesta Flokstra Lubbers, age 88 of Beaverdam went to be with her Lord Tuesday, August 2, 2011.

She was preceded in death by her first husband G. John Flokstra in 1995, a grandson-in-law, Joe Johnson and a great granddaughter, Delana Timmer.

She was a former member of Beaverdam Christian Reformed Church and was currently attending Cornerstone United Reformed Church.  Fanesta worked at Providence Health Care for 16 years in the kitchen and as a nurse’s aide, she also volunteered at Zeeland Community Hospital for 11 years.

She is survived by her husband of 12 years, Rhine Lubbers.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Cornerstone United Reformed Church, 6442 36th Ave., Hudsonville, MI, 49426.  The Reverend James Admiral will officiate.  Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 pm Friday at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 South State Street, Zeeland.  Burial will be in Beaverdam Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be given to Beaverdam Christian School.

Joseph Andrew Johnson was born ¹ about 1979. He died ¹ on 11 Aug 2001 in Michigan, USA. Joseph married Margaret Jeanne Flokstra.
