The 1830 census show John M and: 1 male 10-15 (William L.), 2 males 5-10 (believed to be Robert and John M Jr.), 1 male 0-5 (probably Joseph).

On 3 Jan 1839 there is a land record for John Mabry Donnel in Fayette Co., IL. Purchase from Matthew Thompson. 25 Oct 1939 land record in Fayette Co., IL for John M Donnell and Elizabeth Donnell, his wife.

1850 Fayette Co. IL census. Household #18: p. 675; Donnell, John M 49 farmer TN; Delilah 52 NC; Cornelius 14, Thomas 12, James 10, Lucinda C 6 (All born IL). It is likely that the James Donnell (10) in this record is the Jame Williams (20) found with John Mabry Donnel and Delilah in the 1860 census. And we suspact that all four children were step-children of John Mabry Donnel who belonged to Delilah Williams.

He is found as John M. Donald (age 55) with Delilah (age 60) in the 1860 Williamson Co, IL census data. With them is James Williams, age 20 - perhaps a son of Delilah.

We see him in the 1865 Illinois Census in Grassy, Williamson County. There is a female about his age in the household; I assume Delila. And they are next to James Williams, likely Delila's son.

Records and details about the life and origin of John Mabry Donnel have been difficult to find. Family lore says that he was of "Scotch-Irish" heritage with connections to 'Clan Donald'. None of this can be documented. John Mabry was said to be a 'Primitive Baptist' minister, again we have no documentation to prove this other than the word of Sarah "Lizzie" (Neil) Donnel the wife of Re. George Washington Donnel.

Ancestry DNA evidence indicates a DNA connection between John Mabry Donnel (~1801-~1865) and the descendants of William S. Donnell (1806-1872) of Rutherford County, TN.

Delilah W. was born¹ about 1798 in North Carolina. Delilah married² John Mabry Donnel on 23 Jun 1847 in Fayette County, Illinois.

Not Delilah Cain who married John Williams as that John claims she died before 1850.

Jesse Jernigan [Parents] died in Aug 1816 in Stewart County, Tennessee. Jesse married¹ Thamar Ives on 20 Feb 1793 in Norfolk Co. VA.

Ancestry DNA links for Harris Donnel indicate that Jesse Jernigan's parents might have been David Jernigan and Alice Faye Page.

Jesse died in Stewart CO TN in 1816 and named Elizabeth as a child. Estimating from the time Jesse and Thamar married, she would have been born about 1803. I have no further record on her.

Jesse JERNIGAN and wife Tamar (IVES) JERNIGAN, and children Ezekiel, William, Elisha, Daniel, Robert, Charlotte, David, Gabriel, Nancy, Elizabeth, Lewis, Susan Margaret, and Sally.

Two of the sons of Jesse JERNIGAN moved to IL (Christian/Bond Counties).

The will of Jesse Jernigan with Tamar to be executor minute book 1815-1819 page 105 0f Aug 5 1816 with some mention of the will of Hardy Davis. That's all this book says. In Deed book E page 516 mentions deed from Thomas Batson, executor of Jesse Jernigan or Jenigan , Sr. to William Tubb.

On the disappearance of JERNIGANs from Steward Co, TN: Lots of settlers went to Calloway and other Jackson Purchase counties about that time. A Washington Donnell purchases land in Calloway Feb 20 1837. A David JURNEGAN is in Hickman, 1830 (could it be s/o Jesse?). Tax List 1829 Hickman County Kentucky: Jernigan David 1 male over 21---1 horse or mare---80 acres--watercourse, Bayou de Chien. Looks like he was also in 1825-26-27and 28 no land until 29 names varied in spelling.

Daniel Jernigan was a constable in Dickson Co., TN in 1806.

According to Sarah Lizzie (Neil) Donnel: "Grandpa Donnel (William Lewis) had two brothers Jessie and John. Uncle John moved to the west before I became acquainted with the family, but I knew Uncle Jessie quite well."

From Fayette marriage books: John M Donnell, Jr. and Mary Hundley, he of age, she by consent, m 16 Mar 1845. Chesley McGuire swore that Mary's father, Humphrey Hundley gave consent (Book Old a, p. 25, l. 35). Was she Mary Elizabeth Hundley?

A John Donald, age 35 is found in the 1860 Shelby Co census data. Wife, Mary, age 29. Children: John (10), Francis E (8) Eliza (6), and James W. (1).

Mary Donnell is found in Gage County, Nebraska for the 1900 census. She is listed as Born Apr 1826. She has 6 children with 6 surviving. She is mother-in-law to the head of household Lucien (Lucius) M. Russell. So Lucius' wife was Mary D. Donnel the sixth child of John M Donnel, Jr. and Mary Hundley.

Jan. 28, 1918 enlisted at Billings, Montana and was assigned to Co. A., U.S. Infantry. Sailed for France in August, where he was in the trenches for 5 weeks and contracted pneumonia, which caused his death. Was in the Coast Artillery at Fort Flager, Washington before the war.
