George F. Knowlton is #6928 Stocking's "Knowlton's of England and America" He was born July 24, 1870 (pg 448 Stocking and not continued).

He was son of Daniel Waldo Knowlton, born June 19, 1832 in Holden, Worcester, Mass. (pg 60 vital records) and (#4878 -pg 309 Stocking) and Elizabeth Clapp. He had a brother Daniel W., and sisters Mary E. and Julia. He was grandson of Daniel Knowlton  and Lucy M. Dodd.

G. Frank Knowlton is first listed in the 1894/5 Minneapolis City Directory as a clerk, Omaha Ry, residing at 7 e 17th. He was not listed in the 1893/4 City Directory.
    
Where he was listed there were 12 other Knowltons listed - none living at 7 e 17th and none in the dry goods business although there was Daniel W. Knowlton of the Knowlton & Olson company - upholsterers. Fabrics seems to be a common denominator. Knowlton & Olson were also listed in the 1893/4 City Directory. Daniel W. could have been the father of Frank.
    
As you know Frank married "Lillie" 1 February 1893. When she died 11 June 1896 they were living at 1410 Stevens; the same address where all of the Hertogs were living as boarders. [James LePorte, Jr.]

According to Audrey Donnel, grand-daughter of George Frank Knowlton, George was married first to the sister of Anna Hertog. He married Anna after his his first wife died.

The Grove Cemetery listing for Holden lists Daniel W. as 1832 - Civil War; Springfield. He did not die in the Civil War because George Frank was born after it was over.

In the 1850 census Daniel W., of correct age, is found in Worcester County, Massachusetts. He is a bookkeeper and boards with Merrit and Louisa Abbot, who are almost certainly his Aunt and Uncle (Morril Abbott and Louise - Stocking's). His Uncle Austin is on the same census page.

From the 1860 census: Daniel W. Knowlton, 29 Meary E., 30. Also Isadore Barber, female age 13. Isadore is daughter of Silas Barber and Eunice D. Clapp. So Isadore is niece of Daniel's wifes.

In 1870: Danl W, mary E., David W. Mary E, and Julia A. & Isidore E Barber a domestic servant.

The family is found in the 1880 census for Worcester, Worcester, MA. At 3 Chatham Place.

Knowlton, mother or sister; and David W. Knowlton, lawyer). She was a teacher at the Adams School in 1893 and in the Madison School the other years.

Joseph Albert Hertogs [Parents] was born 1 on 12 Apr 1836 in Antwerp, Belgium. He died 2, 3 on 4 Jul 1927 in Seattle, King County, Washington, USA. He was buried 4 in Lakeview Cemetery, Seattle, King County, Washington, USA. Joseph married 5, 6, 7 Amalie Christine Lange on 5 Apr 1864 in London, England. This relationship has been challenged.

Birth could be 25 Apr 1836. Not Jan 1837 as in the census.

Joseph was born Joseph DU BOIS, son of Melania DU BOIS. Later became Joseph HERTOGS, son of Arnoldus Josephus, by a legal motion. He attended the Royal Atheneum.

Went to Liverpool at age 20 to work in the importing business. Soon after he spent 5 years in Melbourne, Australia. On returning to London he met Amelia LANGE (or DRALLE).

Occupation: Merchant, living on Richmond Road on 5 April 1864 at the time of his marriage.

Spent from 1865-1870 in Melbourne, returning on the ship HMS Swiftsure. They settled in London, then left for the United States in 1878. They lived two years in New York. The spent almost 20 years Minneapolis, MN. 1880: 621 16th Ave S, Minneapolis. 1886/7 have them at 429 S 6th in the city directory. 1900: 1508 1st Ave S, Minneapolis

In 1903 Joseph joined his family in Seattle, WA. Joseph had a home at 9th and Blaine in Seattle that relatives remember.
    
1920: 2007 14th Ave N, Seattle (living with James Calaghan - indexed as "James J Palaghan" in 1920 census.)

He became an American citizen in 1901. In June of 1914 he was appointed Belgium Vice-Consul for Washington State by Belgium King Albert. This was authorized by President Woodrow Wilson on 10 July 1914. He served until about 1923.

He died at home (1625-9th Ave W; Seattle) after several days of illness.

Amalie Christine Lange [Parents] was born 1, 2, 3 on 14 Jun 1840 in Bremen, Bremen, Germany. She died 4, 5, 6 on 6 Oct 1908 in Seattle, King County, Washington, USA. She was buried 7 in Lakeview Cemetery, Seattle, King County, Washington, USA. Amalie married 8, 9, 10 Joseph Albert Hertogs on 5 Apr 1864 in London, England.

1900 census for Hennepin, MN give me Apr 1842 (not 14 Jun 1840) for her birth and born England, not Bremen, Germany. 14 Jun 1842 from death record, the age must be 68 years not 66.

Amelia Hertogs, b June 1850(?), age 49, widow, 2 kids 2 surviving is in the 1900 King, WA census. With Louis Hertogs, son, b Sep 1879.

Amelia B. LANGE: Her father, Dr. Alexander Lange, and her mother, Fanny Lange, were divorced (or never married) and her mother married a Dralle.

On her marriage certificate she is Amalie DRALLE. She is also DRALLE on the birth certificate of her daughter. Her residence at the time of her marriage was Church Road.

Listed as Amalie Hertogs wife of Joseph Hertogs residing at Minneapolis in the will of Alexander Lange.
