After his active duty Steve switched military services and enlisted in the Army National Guard to serve with his big brother in the same unit. After a 4 year stint he decided to obtain a commission, went to OCS at Fort Benning and was appointed a Second Lieutenant. He received several promotions over his career and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
