Southern Central Rail-Road
Rolling Stock
Most of my rolling stock is now scratchbuilt. Exceptions are several boxcars and gondolas from Trout Creek kits; boxcars from B.T.S. kits; a resin boxcar from an Art Griffin kit; and boxcars, coal jimmies, and a stock car from Alkem kits. Links to these companies are on my home page. Click on the pictures below to see larger images. I scratchbuild cars mainly from wood and styrene, and a few from resin castings using molds I made. I often modify kits for more detail or to model a different prototype.

Lehigh Valley 33' double hopper gondolas. Number Built: 4; Material: Resin. Canfield and McGlone kits.
Lehigh Valley 28' double hopper gondolas. Number Built: 5; Material: Scratchbuilt from wood. Plans from a late 19th Century edition of National Car Builder.

Southern Central 34' boxcar. Number Built: 1; Material: styrene; Lettering: Art Griffin decals. The Southern Central actually had a very small roster and I'm very fortunate that Art Griffin has a photo and decals for this boxcar. I sort of guessed at the height and width of the car based on the age and the number of grabirons on the ends. I don't need many of these cars because most of the rolling stock I see in photos of the time have Lehigh Valley cars. |
