Luarca is a fishing village of about 7500 people.

Our first glimpse of Luarca, from the road by the cemetary.

It seems almost like a model railroad scene.

A passer by alerts us to the cemetary nearby. "The most beautiful in Spain", she says.

Luarca's sea-going heritage is evident in this panel, one of 14, near the cemetary.

Even in the fog, the view from the lighthouse road is captivating.

Only a few hundred residents actually fish on a regular basis.

Spanish tourism is the big item.

The houses rise steeply from the harbor.

There are a few red boats.

Hoping a part of the catch might drop his way.

The harbor seems tranquil in the morning fog.

Fishermen unload their catch at the market

before tieing up to their buoy.

Checking out the catch.

Rowing back to the boat after dropping off the fish.

Fish laid out for sale in the "lonja".

One of the old, narrow streets near the harbor.

Fishermen finish stowing gear after a night's fishing.

The cemetary is on the right in this view from the Guardia Civil barracks.

These views are from the Ermita, across the bay from the cemetary. (See first photo)

Looking South toward the mountains from the Ermita.

The Rio Negro flows to the sea through Luarca.
