 Santiago de Compostela, Galicia

Our first night and day in Spain are spent here.

The cathedral dominates the core of the old city.

The twin bell towers are awesome in their own right.

Waiting for the sun to warm the plaza

in front of the cathedral.

The first light begins to illuminate the square.

The inside of the gothic church is ornate and serene.

The craftmanship is captivating, inviting close scrutiny.

The facade is imposing in size and detail.

In the streets of the old city.

Fontoria

Our bed-and-breakfast home for two weeks.

Fontoria is a small farming pueblo of about 20 houses near Luarca (2km).

This restored/converted farmhouse was our bed and breakfast .

The forest near the pueblo is often filled with quiet fog.

San Pedro de Paredes

Further into the mountains from Fontoria, this tiny hamlet lies nestled in the Valle de Paredes.

Horreos for storing agriculural products are found throughout Asturias.

Further up into the valley, looking back toward San Pedro.

San Pedro's church hugs the forested hills..
