~Ports of the Asturian Coast~

Ribadesella

Ribadesella is a pleasant coastal town with a quintessential Spanish ambiente.

Paseando in the warm summer evening.

Pouring sidra, asturian cider, takes a steady hand.

Boar sausage, chorizo, and croquettas; typical Asturian fare.

The port is expansive compared to Luarca or Puerto de Vega.

There is more room to tie up right on the pier.

Puerto de Vega

Puerto de Vega is an important fishing village in terms of catch.

Puerto de Vega is a tidy and clean fishing village, smaller than Luarca.

There are a good number of boats for the small size of the harbor.

The fishing boats and launches are well-

maintained and ship-shape.

We had a nice comida in the restaurant in the blue building.

Which are more colorful, the boats or the houses?

Puerto de Vega had some 18th c. military importance

as evidenced by the fortified sea wall.

Puerto de Viavelez

Viavelez is a possibly the most quaint fishing village in the world.

The fog imparts an air of mystery to this tiny port .

The interior of the harbor is very well-protected.

Very picturesque, indeed.

Cudierro

Cudierro is a bit of an enigma. Part cozy fishing village, part industrial / commercial center.

A working boat gets a workover.

The harbor lies in a bay with very steep sides.

A tight fit for this open-air restaurant.
