Exploring the Cantabrian Coast

Not all parts of the province allow development right on the coast.

On the other hand, it is a picturesque setting.

Playa de los Catedrales (Cathedral beach)

Walking among the monolithic rocks evokes a sense of quiet awe.

Low tide exposes a rich tapestry of life.

High tide in passing storms creates a somber, misty isles atmosphere.

The rocks put up a stiff resistance against the crashing surf.

The spray often reached the tops of the rocks and got us wet!

Definitely one of the most scenic spots on the coast.

Surf continually wears away at the base of the cliffs.

A walk to the end of the street provides a less obstructed view.

These structures evoke a sense of power and priviledge.

Environment and age take their toll.

Much of the architecture is well-preserved.

The sundial on the upper corner testifies to a simpler era.
