Sounds clips library #2

"Don't Want To Work"
artist: Grasshopper
words and music by Evan Kimble
CD: Garden Of Delight (2000)

Ringo inspired drum fills and no frills rock time-keeping.

"Moonlight Page"
solo

This is two of me playing loosely in 5/4. I recorded myself twice, then took one channel from one clip, and the other channel from the next one.

"The Best Of My Life"
artist: TIGHT
words and music by Corey Knoblich
from my field recording Sept. 9 2002 at the EMP Liquid Lounge

I just had to put this whole damn song up here. Bless you Corey. This was our "KISS rock" type song. An example of why I pretty much gave up double bass after this show! But we had fun . . . nothing better than a piercing cymbal bell, pounding floor tom grooves on the chorus, and a Tommy Aldridge rave-up at the end.

"Your Body"
artist: Grasshopper
words and music by Brian Couch and Jerry Knight
CD: Garden Of Delight (2000)

I kept thinking of Don Henley as we cut this laid back rock tune. Playing every other backbeat on the tom and snare at the same time is a trick I learned from old Don - an underrated drummer if you ask me. This is my steel Yamaha snare. Great job by engineer Guy Staley on this recording.

"Bang On Your Drum"
artist: Grasshopper
words and music by Brian Couch
CD: Force Of Nature (1999)

I came up with a nice part for this slightly tonque-in-cheek Latin rock send-up. It also gave me the chance to solo - two separate sections that I spliced together in the second of these two clips. This is my wood Ludwig snare and old Recording Custom drum set.

"The Rail"
artist: TIGHT with guest vocalist Reyshard
words and music by Jason Naiden
from my live field recording at EMP Liquid Lounge, October 28, 2002.

During the TIGHT era of the early 00s I played a cherrywood finish Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute set with a Noble and Cooley Alloy Snare. Even with the distant recording - a cool drum sound. For those EMP gigs, the sound people put up two overhead mics and a bass drum mic - that's it. I did the rest. . .

"Unfinished track #3"
artists: Seth Hayden, Thad Taylor, Jason Naiden

This is . . . this is . . . (inside joke). This is to prove I can play SLOW, and also creatively in a triplet feel. I love the triplet feel. Anything can happen . . . I like the groove we go into at :35 of this. SupraPhonic snare here.

"Your Lap, Any Crime"
artist: TIGHT
words and music by Jason Naiden
taken from my field recording at EMP, Sept. 9 2002.

Jason never liked this one, but it was fun for me to play - 16th note, alternating hands with all manner of disco hi-hatisms, flourishes and other mumbo jumbo drum jive.
