TO: ALL WEST VIRGINIA ARES\256 MEMBERS (OFFICIAL) ALL ARES AND NON-ARES\256 AMATEURS ANYWHERE (INFORMATION)
FROM: KEN HARRIS, WA8LLM, WV SECTION EMERGENCY COORDINATOR WOOD COUNTY EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS INCORPORATED
WV
ARES\256 BULLETIN NR 10.08 DATE: February 21, 2010
SUBJECT: LEARNING BY EXPERIENCE.
Assisting with events
like the runs, walks, races, boating events, disaster drills, and exercises has multiple purposes.
It affords us
the opportunity to handle tactical communications, use tactical call signs, expose of Amateur Radio to the public, and provides
a service to our communities that no one but Amateur Radios operators can do.
Take advantage of these types of
activities and try to learn from them. If you feel you may have made mistakes during any of these events, then you have
already learned the most important lesson. Recognizing where you have failed, or gone wrong, in an event, is our best
learning experience. It may be a year before we can correct those mistakes, but, we know what to correct.
By recognizing
mistakes that were make is only half of the job. We've got to be sure not to make them again. These experiences makes us
better communicators, and helps us better understand communications under pressure.
Take advantage of any events
and learn to be a better communicator.
