This list of nets should give you a basis for determining what to monitor or where to attempt communications in an emergency
situation.
WV Eastern Region ARES Net:
Scheduled Mondays at 8:00 PM on 147.255 repeater. Originates from Berkeley County. Please be aware that Jack
(WB8YZV), the repeater owner may turn on the PL if QRM becomes a problem. If the PL is on, it is 123.0. Better
yet, program your radios with the PL as a default then you can get in whether it is on or not.
This is the net Berkeley County ARES will use if activated.
In the event that this repeater is down, or otherwise unavailable, Berkeley Co. ARES will operate on 146.55 simplex.
Jefferson County ARES Net: Scheduled Sundays at 8:30PM on 147.255 repeater. Originates from Jefferson County,
WV
West Virginia ARES/RACES Net scheduled first Thursday of each month following the closing of the WV Fone Net on
3811 KHz LSB. This is where the WV State ARES would operate in an emergency.
WV ARES District Six Net. 147.390 (+) 123.0 PL (N8RCG repeater nr Keyser)
Meets each Sunday at 9:30PM
N8RCG is the DEC for our area of WV.
WV DAREN (Digital Amateur Radio Emergency Network) net 145.690 MHz.
Saturday 7:00 PM local to 10:00 PM.
Check your local DAREN PBBS for the latest net news and NCS locations so that you will be able to check in.
Eastern Panhandle Traffic Net (EPTN) scheduled weekdays (M-F) at 6:45PM on 147.255 repeater. This is an NTS traffic
and training net.
Eastern Panhandle Simplex Net
Each Tuesday at 8:30 PM on 147.54 MHz.
Good Net for checking equipment capabilities and coverage. It's always good to know where you can communicate
to using simplex!
WV Fone Net (WVFN) scheduled daily at 6:00 PM (until time change in the fall) on 3811 KHz. LSB. This is a
WV Section level traffic and training net of the National Traffic System (NTS).
WV Mid-Day Net scheduled daily at 11:45 AM on 3865 KHz. This is a WV Section level traffic and training net of
the National Traffic System (NTS).
SKYWARN net (local net for the metro Wash. DC area, this includes the Eastern Panhandle of WV). Activated when
conditions dictate on the 147.300 repeater.
Radio Rescue Net
3911 KHz midnight to 5 AM Eastern time
This is a mobile assistance net operating late night (see news item elsewhere on this site).
Hurricane Watch Net
14.325 MHz. Net activates when land areas are threatened by hurricane or tropical storm. This net works
in close association with the National Hurricane Center.
Maritime Mobile Service Net, InterCon Net and U.S. Coast Guard Net all use 14.300 MHz USB. These nets are a tremendous
help to the maritime community. You don't have to be a boater, there have been times that stations as far inland as
Kansas have assisted people in need on the oceans. That's the nature of 20 Meter propogation.
