Many other builders have asked me why I didn't do the first flight. My reasononing
was that I am a low time pilot and my good friend and fellow Vikings fan Eric offered to make the first flight.
Eric has over 600 hours in a Sonex so the logical thing to do was to let him test it and I'm glad I did. The first flights
were plauged with heating problems and Eric need to make some quick decisions before the engine cooked. After 3 attempts
to correct the heating problem we decided to call it for the day and I would do the remaining test flights. Eric reported
that it flew perfect and the only revision was to add a rudder trim tab. I eventually fixed the heating problem by adding
some small baffles to the inside of the cooling ducts and continue to fly the plane without any further trim adjustments.
The sign off for the first flight occured on July 15th with Clyde Poser as the inspector. Clyde
was a great during the whole process which meant the inspection had no set backs.
My first flight took place on August 2, 2009 and this is the Sonex grin you have after drinking the kool aid.
