Volume Five opens with
Alucard experiencing an intertesting dream. Willis.
That comic relief is cut short by an
aerial view of a warship steaming towards England. The warship is Millenium's, the crew are vampires, and the long-legged
lady sunning herself on deck is Rip Van Winkle--a vampire gunwoman with a magic musket.
But something's coming--Alucard, curled
in the cockpit of a refitted spy plane, hurtling towards the ship at a speed their guns can't match.
Rip, who before this was so devil-may-care
and confident, is filled with a fear like some black premonition. "It's him," she screams, just before Alucard's half-destroyed
plane crashes straight into the battleship's deck. There's an impact, an explosion, and the sound of crackling flames. Out
of the flames strides a grinning figure, and Rip turns and runs.
Rip overcomes her fears at the end, but
it's all for nothing.
Back at Millenium the Major grins. Rip
was just bait, a sacrificial lamb he used to achieve a certain goal. Alucard is now stranded in the middle of the ocean,
vampires cannot cross water, and Millenium is closer to England than anyone had realized.
