THE MONEY RAISED FROM BOTH KNIVES IS GOING TO THE VISITING ANGELS. FEEL FREE TO MAKE A DONATION TO THE FUND.

I am going to donate the proceeds from the sale of both the collaborative knife and the knife I am making to the Visiting Angels in Pahrump. They did not bill Dave for all of the hours they should have/could have. Minimum billing was for 2 hours per day. Often they only charged 1 hour, and many times Albert, the Director, personally went and drove Dave somewhere and didn't charge him. I think this would be a much better way to put the money to use. Thanks. Richard J.

Individual donations to Visiting Angels in Dave's name can be mailed here. Thanks

It is 12 7/8" oal.  7" long from grind start to tip, 7 3/8" long from guard to tip. 2 1/8" wide from edge to spine.  The Handle on that knife is Spalted Maple burl with ivory spacers and it is 5 1/8" long. The knife is also a take apart.

The collaboration knife above is made from 2 1/2" wide x 3 1/6" A2 tool steel which Darrel Ralph has generously donated.
Matt Cook has graciously offered to do the guard and handle. When I went to his website and read his welcome page, I knew this knife was going to turn out sweet. Here is what I read that really impressed me.
(Plus I know exactly what he means, I do almost the same thing.)

"This may sound crazy but I feel a true knifemaker can talk to his / her metal. From start to finish the blade / guard / handle should all be "One". Maybe I am the only one who feels this way, but to me it works."

Although I have made quite a few knives over the years, I dont consider myself a seasoned maker nor did I ever claim to be. I have made some nice knives in the past and some of my first werent so nice but I learned from them. My first knife looked like it was just thrown together but a friend liked it better than I did so he talked me into selling it to him.

ITS BACK FROM THE ENGRAVERS. (PICTURES COMING SOON)

I have came up with a better handle option instead of the stag that Darrel Ralph donated. I will use the stag on another knife that will be auctioned off also. that knife will have to wait for a few months.
It wont be long now. I made a nut today so could finish putting it together. I hope to have it shipped out to get the sheath made before the end of this month.

In the first picture below, it looks like its not going to look right, but as you change pictures, you will see the grind line move up to my mark. Since a radius in a corner is stronger than a square, I leave a radius in the grind start. To see what I mean, cut a piece of paper with a square corner and one with a slight radius. Now pull the corners away from each other and watch what happens. The square corner rips while the rounded corner doesnt, it bows or bends. No matter what type of tang, I always leave a small radius in each corner.
